Se ha terminado con la redacción definitiva de los estatutos del futuro capítulo español de la Fundación Wikimedia. Se ha pretendido realizar una redacción simple y lo suficientemente flexible para que no sea necesario modificarlos en una buena temporada. Algunos de los detalles del funcionamiento de la asociación se incluirán en el futuro Reglamento de Régimen Interno para facilitar su modificación, ya que ese documento no necesita ser presentado en el Registro de Asociaciones y nos ahorramos ese papeleo.
Esta versión de los estatutos se va a someter a la votación de todos los interesados para lo que se abre un período de votación del 28 de abril al 5 de mayo, ambos inclusive. Oportunamente se hará saber el link donde se puede votar. Se ruega encarecidamente a quienes deseen proponer textos, artículos o frases alternativas, que no las intercalen en el texto del borrador de Estatutos, para no hacerlo ilegible, y que trasladen sus propuestas a la discusión de la página.
Queda convocada una reunión para el día 8 de mayo de 2010 en Madrid, reunión a la que podrán asistir todos los interesados, pues en ella se procederá a la firma del Acta de Constitución. Se ruega a todos los interesados en firmar que acudan con sus DNI o identificaciones oficiales (Pasaporte o Carné de Conducir), a ser posible en vigor.

Hello Wikimedians, My name is Kelly Lyman and I am working for the Wikimedia Foundation during the 2010 Fundraiser. My job is to be the liaison between your community and the Foundation. This year's fundraiser is intended to be a collaborative and global effort; we recognize that banner messages which may perform well in the United States don't necessarily translate well, or appeal to international audiences.
I'm contacting you as I am currently looking for translators who are willing to contribute to this project by helping translate and localize messages into different languages and suggesting messages that would appeal to your readers on the Fundraising Meta Page. We've started the setup on meta for both banner submission, statistical analysis, and grouping volunteers together.
Use the talk pages on meta, talk to your local communities, talk to others, talk to us, and add your feedback to the proposed messages as well! I look forward to working with you during this year's fundraiser. If someone could translate this message I would really appreciate it so that everyone is able to understand our goals and contribute to this year's campaign.

Estimados compañeros. Permitidme unas líneas para anunciar lo que para muchos nos resulta una importante noticia:
El pasado 7 de febrero, la Fundación Wikimedia reconoció oficialmente a Wikimedia España como capítulo oficial de la Fundación. Wikimedia España, constituida bajo la figura de asociación sin ánimo de lucro y jurídicamente independiente, tiene como objetivo conseguir los mismos intereses que la Fundación Wikimedia en territorio español, promover el conocimiento libre y apoyar todos los proyectos de Wikimedia en cualquiera de sus lenguas.
El reconocimiento oficial de Wikimedia España se produjo después de más de tres de trabajo años durante los cuales decenas de usuarios promovieron de diverso modo la creación del capítulo español. Este hito no hubiese sido posible sin la ayuda desinteresada de dichas personas, las cuales están comprometidas con los principios del conocimiento libre y creen en las posibilidades que el asociacionismo activo tiene para promover este movimiento global. ¿Cómo?, de muchas maneras: conferencias, concursos, jornadas, talleres, comunicación con la prensa, intercesión ante las administraciones para conseguir la liberación de datos, etc. Traducido a los proyectos de Wikimedia, incluido este, fomentar este tipo de actividades permitirá mejorar la cantidad y calidad de los contenidos, captar nuevos colaboradores y asegurar su viabilidad económica. Los éxitos de otros capítulos oficiales avalan esta estrategia.
Además, Wikimedia España contempla la posibilidad de conformar estructuras de acción local para agilizar la realización de actividades a nivel autonómico, provincial o municipal; fomentar la relación con otros capítulos de la Fundación Wikimedia, presentes y futuros; y apoyar otros proyectos que, aun no guardando relación directa con la Fundación Wikimedia, sí compartan sus objetivos básicos de ofrecer información que pueda ser libremente utilizada, estudiada, redistribuida y modificada.

The Wikimedia Foundation, at the direction of the Board of Trustees, will be holding a vote to determine whether members of the community support the creation and usage of an opt-in personal image filter, which would allow readers to voluntarily screen particular types of images strictly for their own account.
Further details and educational materials will be available shortly. The referendum is scheduled for 12-27 August, 2011, and will be conducted on servers hosted by a neutral third party. Wikimedia Foundation is getting ready to push out 1.19 to all the WMF-hosted wikis. As we finish wrapping up our code review, you can test the new version right now on beta.wmflabs.org. For more information, please read the release notes or the start of the final announcement.
The following are the areas that you will probably be most interested in:
- Faster loading of javascript files makes dependency tracking more important.
- New common*.css files usable by skins instead of having to copy piles of generic styles from MonoBook or Vector's css.
- The default user signature now contains a talk link in addition to the user link.
- Searching blocked usernames in block log is now clearer.
- Better timezone recognition in user preferences.
- Improved diff readability for colorblind people.
- The interwiki links table can now be accessed also when the interwiki cache is used (used in the API and the Interwiki extension).
- More gender support (for instance in logs and user lists).
- Language converter improved, e.g. it now works depending on the page content language.
- Time and number-formatting magic words also now depend on the page content language.
- Bidirectional support further improved after 1.18.
Report any problems on the labs beta wiki and we'll work to address them before they software is released to the production wikis.
